Serving New York's Franchised Dealers Since 1923

NYSADA's Gold Club talks with Governor David Paterson about legislative issues affecting our industry.
Founded in 1923 as the Empire State Automobile Merchants Association and renamed in 1943, the New York State Automobile Dealers Association actively represents approximately 1,000 franchised new car and truck dealers in New York State. The association is dedicated to providing the highest quality service in the areas of education, insurance and legislative and regulatory matters for New York dealers. NYSADA, the statewide advocate for franchised dealers, is committed to promoting and maintaining a competitive automotive industry for our members across the Empire State.

NYSADA is currently developing its legislative and governmental priorities for 2010. Our success in the 2008 session when the legislature passed and the Governor signed far-reaching reforms to the State Franchised Motor Vehicle Dealers Act has now proved prophetic. The chaotic and disruptive changes that rocked the automotive industry this year give testimony to the need for collective action by all the state’s dealers to protect their interest. Strengthening our state’s franchise laws was vital to that effort. NYSADA’s Legislative/Governmental Affairs Committee members continually review the impact that laws and regulations have on franchised dealers, manufacturers, distributors, lenders and consumers. They are vigilant in their efforts to improve the interaction between franchised dealers and state government.
More than ever in our history, dealers need the strong collective voice of NYSADA to meet today’s challenges and we will build on our past success. In addition to franchise law reform in 2008, NYSADA was able to take the initiative in 2007 in the creation of the Administrative Hearing Act, which provided dealers an administrative proceeding in franchise disputes as an alternative to the costly judicial process. In 2009, NYSADA’s efforts resulted in a raising of the Doc Fee. Perhaps most importantly, NYSADA successfully blocked many bills that would have proved harmful to the interest of dealers if passed.
Located directly across the street from the New York State Capitol, NYSADA diligently advocates for the interests and concerns of its members with the state’s leaders. In fact, NYSADA hosts one of the legislative session’s largest and most highly regarded receptions for state leaders and regulators.
NYSADA provides ongoing active support, through our Political Action Committee, for elected officials that understand and are sympathetic to the needs of new car and truck dealers. NYSADA continually lobbies for your interests in the Senate and Assembly. NYSADA monitored nearly 500 legislative bills in 2009 NYSADA will also continue to advocate on dealer concerns to state agencies including the Departments of: Motor Vehicles, Taxation, Transportation, Banking, Insurance, Labor, Environmental Conservation and the Attorney General’s Office.
